SOUTH SUDAN

South Sudan is a country in East Africa with a population of 12 million and it is the size of Texas in land area. The Nile river is a major water source for South Sudan. The capital is Juba where 500,000 live. It is considered to be 10% evangelical Christian, 32% African traditional religion, 6% Muslim and the remaining practice syncretism--the act of combining different beliefs. There are millions of people and hundreds of villages in South Sudan that need the gospel and a house church.

South Sudan has the distinction of being the newest country in the world when it gained its independence in 2011, but is also ranked the poorest country in the world where the average person makes just $38 per month or $455 per year.

Although South Sudan gained its independence in 2011 it has faced decades of war and an ongoing civil war. South Sudan is currently experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis with millions displaced and facing famine, malnutrition, disease and violence of every kind.

While many are fleeing the country, the church planters we support are committed to reaching the people of South Sudan with God's love, hope and gospel of Jesus Christ.
